Wrap Around Care
How to make a booking and cancel wrap around care sessions
Rationale
At Castle Hill Primary school our aim is to provide quality childcare in a safe, warm and stimulating environment where children can play, learn and develop freely as they wish. Reassurance that children are safe and cared for on the school grounds with the continuity of staff who work within the school. All staff are highly experienced and qualified in childcare and Early Years.
Bookings & Prices
All children attending Castle Hill School are eligible to attend Wrap Around Care. However, there are limited spaces in our breakfast and after school club sessions therefore you must book and pay in advance to secure your child’s place.
All bookings and payments must be made via the School Gateway app at least 48 hours in advance. Any bookings made via the WAC co-ordinator or the office within the 48 hours period will incur a £5.00 late booking charge. Please take care when making bookings for WAC as we may not be able to amend these once booked. Children will only be accepted by WAC staff when they have been booked into a session and they will not take children that just turn up.
Any emergency on the day bookings will be passed to the headteacher for further consideration.
Please note - The only sessions that will be cancelled and refunded are if a child is sick.
For more information, please speak to the club’s coordinator – Tricia Hancock or contact the school office on 01706 813163 or email: WAC@castlehill.calderdale.sch.uk

Arrivals & departures
Our club will give a warm and friendly welcome to each child on arrival and ensure that they depart safely at the end of each session.
All children MUST be signed in and out of the building when attending Wrap Around Care so staff are aware at all times of who is present for safeguarding reasons.
Children cannot be dropped off before 7.30 am and need to be picked up by 5.30 pm otherwise the late collection charge will come into force.
All children must be collected by 5.30 pm. If you do not pick your child up by this time, there will be a late collection charge which will be £10 for the first 10 minutes, then a further £5 for every 5 minutes after that (per child). This charge will be necessary to cover the costs of staff if they have to work beyond 5.30 pm. We would ask that you ensure that you pick your child up in a timely fashion every day so that this does not occur. Of course, if there is a problem, please let WAC know as soon as possible and we will ensure that your child is looked after until you arrive or arrange for someone else to collect them.
Our Environment
As children are already spending 5 hours of their day in school, we aim to make their experience of Wrap Around Care as happy as possible. We provide a cosy, warm and homely environment that creates an extension of the family home.
We have introduced ‘enchanting environments’ that allow children to explore real objects in play and gain respect for the resources they use. By using authentic resources, natural materials and loose parts children have the opportunity to experience nature first-hand and become connected to the natural world through play.
Listening to Children
Castle Hill Wrap Around Care are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We recognise that every child is an individual and aim to promote their happiness, self-confidence and well-being as members of a caring community.
We are extremely committed to the principle of involving children in the care we provide. Because of this, we follow a child-led learning approach which allows children to take ownership of play, learning and experiences. Staff support children in play and help them develop risk-taking skills.
Food & drink
Our aim is to provide a healthy, nutritional and tasty menu. This runs on a 3-week basis in line with the school dinner menu. We provide a summer and winter menu which are reviewed every year. All dietary requirements are catered for, so please speak to a member of staff if you have any concerns.
Mealtimes at Wrap Around care are an important time for children to develop their independent skills and children are given the opportunity to use self-service breakfast, as well as help out at tea time.
Partnership with parents & carers
We recognise that parents/carers play a fundamental role in a child’s development and this should be acknowledged as the basis for the partnership between the club/ school and parents/carers. For some parents, we are the only day-to-day contact they have with school, so it is important for our staff to be there to help and pass on information when needed
We feel it is extremely important to provide childcare that meets the needs of working families, so we try to offer a flexible provision wherever possible.
Unfortunately, due to busy sessions, this is not always available, but we do try to accommodate the family’s individual needs.
